Thanks to the collaboration with SustainLab, electric boat company X Shore can now track their sustainability KPIs just as easily as their financial and operational KPIs. This partnership empowers X Shore to identify new opportunities for growth and improvement, and ultimately deliver on their full potential as a sustainability leader in their industry.

Founded in 2016 by Konrad Bergström, X Shore represents a dream come true for conscious boat owners. X Shore boats enable the best of both worlds – its 100% electric boats provide the speed and flexibility of a motorboat and the low marine life impact of a silent sailing boat.

X Shore’s purpose is to be "one with nature” and they envision an emissions-free boating industry, so sustainability is at the heart of all they do. This includes deep integration with their business strategy.

“Our vision is ‘zero emission boating’, and sustainability is, alongside design and technology, one of our three strategic pillars. We have a clear sustainability strategy and clear targets, and sustainability is integrated into our business plan as well as our day-to-day operations and decision-making.”

Gathering data

Before teaming up with SustainLab, X Shore wasn’t actively tracking its sustainability data. However, after formalising the sustainability strategy, they recognized a dire need to track the KPIs that would enable them to monitor their sustainability performance in relation to strategic targets.

“We had data scattered across various systems and sources, so it was a real challenge to find the best possible way to collect it. We even considered building our own solution in Excel, but when we learned about SustainLab, we were excited to give it a try,” Helena explains.

“We had high hopes for the collaboration – not only did we want guidance and quality assurance in our sustainability work, but we also wanted a platform that was easy to use and where we could access all of our data in one place.”

Tracking sustainability KPIs

With the help of SustainLab's platform, X Shore can now easily track their sustainability KPIs in one place. This has made it much easier to see ongoing progress toward their sustainability goals, and spotlight areas in need of more focused effort.

SustainLab’s customizable reports and dashboards also allow X Shore to integrate their sustainability KPIs into monthly reports for different stakeholders, including the management team, as well as their board. This has sparked discussion across the organisation about how to further their sustainability priorities.
